After her son was born in 2002, Kari left the corporate world to become a stay at home mom. To help the family finances, she started growing food in her yard for her family to enjoy. Looking to expand her growing knowledge, she became a master gardener. It was here that she saw the need to provide people access to well grown food and became determined to find a way to bring responsibly grown food to all who want it. To further that goal, she received an associate degree in sustainable agriculture from Central Carolina Community College in 2012. As part of that degree, Kari interned at Sugar Creek Farm located in Davidson County. Part of the internship involved working at 2 farmers markets in Winston Salem. This is where she fell in love with selling local food. When the opportunity to become a co-owner of The Budding Artichoke became available, it seemed like the universe was lining up to put her where she needed to be. She looks forward to maintaining and building relationships with area farmers and helping customers discover the wonderful world of real food.
